Designing mechanisms that
include gearing just became significantly easier with the introduction of
a new "HANDBOOK OF GEARS, D190" by Stock Drive Products and
Sterling Instrument. It features a comprehensive 138-page Technical Section prepared by Professor George Michalec, a consulting
engineer, and former Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Stevens Institute of
Technology, Hoboken, NJ. Other contributing authors are
among the most respected in the field and include works by: Clifford Adams,
Earle Buckingham, Darle Dudley, Charles Miscke, Henry Ryffel and Joseph
Shigley.
This Technical Section contains 122 tables and illustrations and is
divided into 20 major areas which include: design procedures, standards,
plus selection and application data for spur, helical, rack, internal,
worm and bevel gears. Included is a 10-page Designers Data Section which
contains handy tables in such areas as conversion of units, mathematical
formulas and useful shop data. Other areas covered in detail include: criteria of gear
quality, "involutometry", performance criteria, strength and
durability, materials, finish coatings, lubrication, fabrication,
inspection, metric design, plus extensive coverage on designing plastic
molded gears.
