Figure 3 CONSTANT-FORCE
SPRING: Enormous Expandability.
Final Load Is Limited Only
By Length Of Spring Material. At All
Extensions, Load Remains Same.
The constant-force
extension spring is basically a high stress, long deflection device and offers
great advantages when used in applications where very low or zero gradient is
desired, where large extensions are required, where high initial force (up to
maximum rating) at initial deflection is desired, where space is a factor, and
where very high cycle life is not a requirement.
Typical applications include: counterbalancers, door closers, cable
retractors, tool-head returns, cabinet and furniture components and others
requiring a relatively long travel at substantially constant force or pull. When
used as a counterbalance the NEG'ATOR spring saves space and weight and
eliminates cumbersome linkages in products ranging from hair dryers, windows and
toys to gym equipment and adjustable countertops. Figures 4a, b, c, d, e, f
illustrate additional applications.
