New Series of 148 Hub Gears from Sterling Instrument Feature the Patented FairlocŪ Integral Fastening System

Image Driven Product Finder & Current Prices

A new series of 148 inch and metric hub (spur) gears manufactured by Sterling Instrument feature the patented FairlocŪ integral hub fastening system which eliminates marred shafts. These 20° pressure angle, AGMA QIO (ISO 7) Class, 303 stainless steel gears are identified as the S1VS Series. The choice of FairlocŪ rotating component fastening system helps phase adjustment, timing, position adjustment and frequent removal problems with full component support along the entire hub section. These very cost-effective gears are compact, self-contained and offers a small gear hub envelope.

These gears are designed to fit shafts ranging from 1/8" to 3/8" (4 mm to 10 mm) in diameter. The suggested clearance between the bore and the shaft is .0001"/.0008" (shaft tolerance of g6,h6 or h7). They are stocked in 48, 32 and 24 Diametral Pitch (0.5, 0.8, 1.0 Module) and range in face width from .197" to .313" (5 mm to 8 mm). Their sizes range from l4 to 120 teeth with O.D.'s ranging from .375" to 4.250" (9 mm to 102 mm).

The FairlocŪ system consists of two slots that are machined into the hub,one orientated radially the other angularly, to create a transverse wedge which remains attached to the solid portion of the hub on one side. The resultant cantilevered clamping section has a tapped hole to accept a cap screw which passes through a clearance hole in the solid portion of the hub, and into a threaded hole in the transverse wedge section. As the socket head cap screw is tightened the cantilevered section clamps the shaft securely. The screw can be tightened and released repeatedly without marring the shaft or affecting its torque transmitting abilities.
