New Hyde Park, NY --6 miniature slip clutches offered by Sterling Instrument feature a unique multi-plate design that allows the output end to disengage at a predetermined torque value, preventing damage to the driven component.

Identified as the S98CA6-... series, the clutches feature a knurled adjusting nut that allows the user to set the slip torque at the desired value.  Tightening the nut compresses a spring, which presses the friction pads against the driving plates.  The clutch is constructed so that when the slip torque is reached, the input plates will slip but the output plates will not, preventing the exceeded torque from being transmitted to the output shaft.

These clutches are ideal for compact applications requiring tension control of paper, film, wire, etc.  Examples include paper handling, packaging equipment, conveyors, and textile machinery.  The series has a torque range of 0.3 to 1200 ozf. in., based on continuous operation at 50 rpm for 25 million cycles.
